Exercise 101
This is one of the questions I get asked most often: when's the best time to work out?
The truth is, there’s no one right answer for everyone.
Personally, I think working out first thing in the morning is ideal! It wakes you up, gets you energized and sets you up for a great day where you’ve already achieved something.
Plus, if you get it done first thing, it’s less likely to clash with your other commitments later in the day. You can tick it off your to-do list and relax.
There’s a lot of debate about whether it’s better to work out first thing on an empty stomach. Some people think this makes your body burn fat more effectively. However, a lot of people feel sick or light-headed if they work out on an empty stomach. It’s important that you’re feeling comfortable and able to push yourself in your workout, so listen to your body and do what’s right for you - working out after breakfast is fine if that’s what you prefer.
But what if you prefer working out in the afternoon or evening?
Honestly, that’s fine too. The time of day that you work out will only have a tiny effect on your progress compared to whether you actually stick to your routine and do your workouts every day. So the best time to work out is the one that’s easiest for you!
We’re all different - some of us are naturally morning people, and some of us are at our best later in the day, and we all have different schedules. If your work or family commitments make it really difficult to fit in a morning workout, you’re much more likely to do it if you plan it for later in the day.
So the bottom line is that you can work out whenever you like, as long as it works for you. Train consistently, and you’ll see awesome results, whatever time of day you do it!
Remember, life gets in the way, so forgive it. Just stay consistent, feel your body, feed your body and listen to your body.
